In the beginning

by Picurio

Picurio sprang out of our need to swap pictures after parties and vacations.  Inevitably, a half dozen of us would take pictures at the event and upload them to our website of choice.  While we could view all of the pictures by clicking through the numerous photo sharing sites, or in some cases just clicking through several different Facebook albums, none of the sites allowed us to actually download the original photos without first requiring everyone to install a desktop client.  This issue, the lack of download-in-bulk capability, led us to setup and maintain a FTP site for several years.

Enter Picurio.  With Picurio we now share a single URL and everyone uploads, views, and downloads to their hearts content.  No navigating to different pages, no worrying that you've forgotten somebody's album, no bugging friends to email photos.

And guess what?  Our users love the idea!  In fact, some of our users have found uses for Picurio beyond what we originally envisioned. The Stanford University Senior Class of 2009 used Picurio to collect photos from the entire class for use in their Senior Formal slideshow.  Several dorms collected photos from throughout the year to produce a dorm yearbook.

How will you use Picurio?
